You’ve seen the sultry, black-and-white ads everywhere: The fashion model Shalom Harlowe, topless in a loosely draped bathrobe. Her head tilts to the side as she slumbers in her private cabana, a fresh martini by her side. The $8 million dollar image and branding campaign that launched Bacara’s fall 2000 opening is not smoke and mirrors: This place is the real deal, the good life ready to happen.
Opulence approaches hedonism in restorative fashion: Live a little, and let your life catch up to you. But outside the confines of the private cabanas, more salutary agendas are expertly accommodated with such programs as the Bacara Yoga series.
The inaugural program began in December of 2002, with quarterly sessions set throughout 2003. The aim is to better lives through physical and spiritual awareness. Four instructors certified in varied yoga styles lead days that begin with the gentle postures of Qi Gong and an organic breakfast at the Spa Café. Yoga seminars and classes follow throughout, as do guided hikes in the adjacent plantation—the same that Bacara’s four exceptional culinary venues foray for fresh produce and herbs. Of course pampering spa treatments are included. The four-night Bacara Yoga Series is priced at $3,900 per person.
