Without a doubt, this well-established resort-spa has one of the most extensive, comprehensive lists of spa services available, ranging from daily fitness classes to a gigantic variety of body treatments that would satisfy anyone. Aside from the pampering, the resort has 21 superior tennis courts — hard court, grass and clay — and offers instruction as well as a pro shop. Golfers are sure to be satisfied by La Costa’s two PGA championship 18-hole courses — with lessons and caddies available, as well as a comprehensive, three-day golf school, either full or half days.
Perhaps most impressive, though, are the nutrition, fitness and life-style programs offered in conjunction with Scripps Memorial Executive Health Center. These one-on-one or couples’ sessions cover such topics as Supermarket Survival Skills, Healthy Restaurant Dining Strategies, Eating Behavior Patterns, Centered Eating and Lifestyle Evaluation. The Take Home Trainer session offers one hour with a certified instructor to develop an at-home exercise program; Specialized Nutritional Counseling covers healthy heart nutrition and effective weight
management, and promises to share some of La Costa’s spa secrets to losing weight and keeping it off.
A variety of spa packages, from four to seven nights, offer accommodations, some meals, and a variety of classes, spa services and tennis and golf course access. Fitness classes are also tailored to different levels and include stretching, men’s water volleyball, upper and lower body aquatone, dance aerobics and step combo and interval.
Spa services are extensive. Some of the more unusual include the Thermal Moor Mud, a skin-smoothing therapy followed by a thermal mineral bath; the luxurious, 90-minute La Costa Glow; herbal and loofah wraps; body scrubs and the Krauter Bad a variety of herbal baths derived from Germany that use ingredients such as pine, wildflower and chamomile to soothe joints, muscles and skin.
For the kids, there’s Camp La Costa, which runs each day and offers arts and crafts, golf, tennis, swimming and other activities for children ages 5 to 12. On Friday and Saturday nights, appetizers and dinner are followed by a scavenger hunt or story hour. Babysitters are also available to take children to a park, pool, playground or stay in-room with youngsters.
