Two spectacular locations and styles of lodging are available here on the West Coast of Vancouver Island: Choose the 16-room floating lodge at Quait Bay or the Wilderness Outpost at Bedwell River, the latter being an ultra-luxurious enclave of safari-style, highly appointed tents. Quait Bay opened their new spa, Healing Grounds Spa and Wellness Center, in the spring of 2003; at the Outpost, among cedar board walks linking discretely placed guest tents, are spa tents -a rustic, yet opulent variation on the brick-and-mortar treatment room.
Both are set in one of the world’s only remaining temperate rainforests. The Outpost’s location at the mouth of the Bedwell River offersfresh and saltwater recreation among myriad land-based diversions in and around the stand of 1,000- year-old cedars.
Combining both land and sea adventure is the unique equestrian offering of the resort. On site is a retired U.S. Navy landing craft that ferries up to a dozen horses and guests to remote locations throughout the natural splendor of Clayoquot Sound, making hundreds of miles of trails and shoreline inventively accessible;
