A 26,000 square-foot plantation-style structure holds the spa. Inside, three levels hold three moods. The Welcome Level conveys the sage presence of Golden Door staff. Here you’ll absorb the Zen serenity of flowing waters and natural sunlight, as well as the advice and guidance that’s offered to customize your Golden Door experience.
Step above to the Vitality Level, and you’ll feel a kinetic impetus. In the movement studio, spinning and aerobics trade cadence with yoga and T’ai Chi; next door, you’ll find steppers, treadmills and exercise bikes. At the wellness center, consultations and classes in fitness, nutrition, and health reinforce the surrounding spirit and energy.
The third level is called Tranquillity. Here you’ll find something called Niwa, a Japanese reference to a place of rest. In the States, we’d call it a locker room; add Golden Door touches such as the therapeutic bath called O-furo, and the distinction becomes clear. From here, after a bath and steam, the therapist will escort you to one of 25 treatment rooms where you may receive a spirulina masque or pineapple polish.
Or perhaps it’s a bindi balancing. As with any properly administered Ayurvedic treatment, the bindi balancing begins with a consultation to determine your constitution. With this complete, the therapist selects a combination of herbs and oils appropriate to your needs. The herbs are crushed and used in an exfoliating treatment that both detoxifies and cleanses and then, to further enhance the effect, they’re used again in a wrap. Between the exfoliation and wrap, the oils are put to work in a light massage. In all, it’s a highly individualized treatment — an appropriate choice here at Las Casitas Village.
