Located at the foot of Cheyenne Mountain, The Broadmoor is one of the grande dames of Colorado, a truly majestic resort founded in 1919 as a gambling casino with a hotel added several years later. Over the years, more facilities were added, including golf courses, tennis courts and restaurants. And in 1994, The Broadmoor Spa, Golf and Tennis Club debuted; the spa takes up two floors of the four-level, 90,000 square foot complex.
The fitness center and daily classes, including yoga, box aerobics, step, aqua fit, body sculpting and stretching, are complimentary to guests of The Broadmoor. The fitness center has an indoor swimming pool, outdoorlap pool, Jacuzzi and Cybexand cardiovascular equipment.
Spa treatments, which are offered a Ia carte, range from a variety of massages, including sports, Swedish and deep tissue, to 14 types of baths including the Broadmoor Falls, which combines traditional Swiss shower and Scotch spray in a granite room with warmed walls. Temperature-controlled water massages the body while a therapist controls a pressurized stream of water along the lymphatic and circulatory systems. Other unique baths include the mud bath blended with pine needle extract, the milk/whey bath and a variety of reviving, restoring and stimulating baths.
The Broadmoor will thrill golf fanatics: Three championship golf courses, including one designed by Robert Trent Jones, are on the property, as well as a full-service clubhouse and teaching pros with lessons for adults and children. Tennis magazines rave about The Broadmoor’s courts and teaching staff, which is headed byformer U.S. Davis Cup captain and Wimbledon champion Dennis Ralston. Lessons and clinics can be scheduled any day of the week.
For those who tire of golf, tennis, pampering and workouts, a number of other activities are available either at the resort or nearby, including hiking, llama trekking, hot air ballooning, mountain biking, fly fishing, white water rafting and horseback riding at the Broadmoor’s own stables.
Buses, vans and limousines are also availableto guests for sightseeing and transport to a number of nearby attractions, including 14,100-foot Pike’s Peak; the U.S. Air Force Academy; the 1,300-acre Garden of the Gods park; and the United States Olympic Training Center, which offers tours of the facilities where America’s current and future Olympians train.
The "Bee Bunch" is the resort’s program for children ages 4 to 12, running from mid-June through Labor Day, with trips to the zoo, pony rides, swimming, arts and crafts and other activities. Baby-sitting services are also available.
