Here on the wooded shores of Lake Geneva, a variety of fitness classes and spa services are available to guests of the Abbey Resort. The European-style approach to weliness offers a number of enticing, multi-day, all-inclusive packages.
The Lake Retreat, a three-night plan, represents the program nicely. On arrival, an orientation and check-in covers a variety of basic concerns. First, there’s a brief assessment to determine your compatibility with fitness classes and spa treatments, and then a tour of the facilities. Then there’s some time to pre-order you spa meals for the days ahead. You’ll enjoy nine meals as part of the package; the spa menu at Fontana minimizes fat, cholesterol, and calories, without a complete abandonment of taste. And then the spa treatments: The pampering with this package includes no fewer than 11 treatments.
Fitness classes fill an impressive calendar. Each day has as many as eight regularly scheduled classes. On Tuesdays, for example, things get started with a brisk, 30-minute walk around Fontana. At 9:00am, after the walk, there’s a class called ISS, or Instructor’s Surprise Step. Here, step aerobics is lead at a tempo based on the instructor’s assessment ofclass participants. The balance ofthe day at Fontana is water-related:
an advanced aquatics class; H2O stride and sculpt that’s water dumbbells and kick boards; and then a powerwalk by the lakeside.
