Perhaps best-known to the public as the desert hideaway to actor Tim Robbins in Robert Altman’s 1993 film, “The Player,” Two Bunch Palms is the essence of peacefulness in the desert, serving actors, producers, directors, and lesser-known folks who’ve discovered this 56-acre oasis and who return faithfully.
Privacy and tranquility are the key here; privacy comes from the hushed tones guests are encouraged to speak in (cell phones are allowed only in guest rooms and private vehicles) and the hidden, clothes-optional areas where one can get a full-body tan, protected by tamarisk trees, desert gardens and ancient palms. Tranquility comes naturally, from the pools and grotto that are heated by the 148-degree natural mineral spring aquifers deep below the earth’s surface. No chemicals are necessary here; the waters refresh themselves every few hours.
When guests aren’t busy floating and sunning, they can enjoy a myriad of innovative spa treatments, from Watsu (water Shiatsu) to color therapy. Meals are low fat and low¬sodium, prepared from locally grown and locally raised ingredients. At night, enjoy the star-filled, dark desert sky, punctu¬ated by the sounds of owls and coyotes.
